ABOUT US
In 2016, a group of non-theatre students, dissatisfied with both the heavy time commitment demanded by other campus groups and the lack of representation often found in popular musical theatre, decided to take matters into their own hands by creating NOT EVEN REALLY DRAMA STUDENTS, an organization dedicated to inclusive, low-commitment theatre. Since then, NERDS has grown to over 100 active members who write, compose, direct, and perform their original student work. NERDS focuses on uplifting traditionally underrepresented groups in musical theatre and creating a safe, welcoming, and accepting environment for students with all levels of theatrical experience.Â
Each semester, NERDS produces one full-length musical, a collection of short musical skits (Mini-Musicals), an Open Mic Night, and a series of Audio Dramas. Anyone can audition or sign up to write, compose, edit, help with the production team, or join the backstage crew. All of our sign-up information can be found on our LinkTree, and emails about upcoming opportunities will be sent to our Listserv, which you can sign up for here.

NERDS aims to create an intersectional space in theatre, with a special focus on representation in both our shows and our mission. We champion diversity and inclusion in everything that we do, providing a welcoming environment to everyone.
Many NERDS members are highly involved on campus outside of theatre. As such, our model allows members to pick their participation level, with both smaller and larger events and around 3-5 hours of commitment per week.
NERDS is open to students of all levels of ability and experience. The variety of events that we offer means there is something for everyone, whether that means writing, composing performing, creating props and costumes, working backstage, editing, or anything else!
Performing almost entirely student-written work, NERDS prides itself on fostering creativity in all our shows. We encourage members to express themselves in everything they do and provide room for them to comfortably explore their identities and ideas.
